Kayak Camping Trips

MICA DAM/REVELSTOKE

Monday to Wednesday, 20-22 June 2011 (optional 4th day depending on weather and desire)

Kayak down the Columbia River from Mica Dam to the Downie Rec Site with majestic mountain views on each side of the river.  Base camp will be at Downie with a kayak shuttle to Mica Creek on Tuesday and a kayak shuttle to Gold Stream on Wednesday.  Camping at Downie will be out of the car or trailer, but all participants should have some experience with kayak camping.

All participants must have completed the Level 1 kayaking course.  Wet suits are recommended, but we will be close to the shore.  Water temperature likely in the mid 40′s.  All kayakers should pack an emergency dry sack with warm clothes and a wool toque.

Meet at the SASCU Recreation Centre parking lot nearest the TCH at 8:45 A.M. for a pretrip briefing with departure at 9:00 A.M. sharp.

Contact Fred Walton at 675-3487 if you wish to attend or need further details.

Post Trip Report

Five SARP participants Marianne, Ray, Bill, Graham & Fred enjoyed fabulous weather, a wide range of wild life including bears, moose (with young), eagles, vultures on a kill, etc. and magnificent mountains views.  River currents are not an issue, but keep an eye on the afternoon weather patterns.  Downie Rec Site okay but not the best for tents (too open and not enough trees).  Perhaps Carnes Rec Site next time.

SUGAR LAKE

August (date to be announced)

Over night car camping.  This lake is perfect for all levels of kayaking skill.  The campsite will be in a group site on the water.
