SARP is excited to announce that the Rowing Program is now underway! This is a first for Salmon Arm, and we hope that we will be able to get many of you hooked on the amazing sport of Rowing. We are now accepting registration forms for both the LTR and the recreational programs. Rowing will take place from the SARP compound at Canoe Beach.
The LTR course will consist of 12 hours of instruction that will teach you the fundaments of rowing, terminology, boat-handling skills and safety. We will teach sculling (two oars per person) but we also have a boat set up as a 4- (sweep rowing – one oar per person). There will always be a coach with you. Our emphasis in this course is on the basic technique, learning crew teamwork and FUN! All equipment is provided. The course is taught by our professional staff and club volunteers. The cost of the LTR course is $175.00 for adults and $125 for Youth.
If you have previous rowing experience, you can sign up for the recreational rowing program. There will be both morning and afternoon time slots for the recreational rowing. The cost for recreational rowing is $250.00 plus $40.00 for the SARP Membership.
To register, go to the ‘Membership Info’ link under ‘Welcome to SARP’
SARP has purchased a new Hudson double and a new Hudson touring quad and several BC Rowing Clubs have generously donated equipment to help get the boat house started. We thank the following clubs for their donations:
Nicomekl – Donated a 4x
Brentwood – Donated a 4-
Vernon Rowing Club – Donated sweep oars
We also thank Rowing BC and Rowing Canada Aviron for their assistance and input in setting up the program and in training coaches. In particular Martin George and Chuck McDirmiad (both of Rowing BC) have been a great help with program preparations.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of the Rowing Coordinators. Look forward to seeing you on the water!
